Kate Cosgroveis an illustrator and fine artist from Michigan. She received a bachelor’s of fine art, with honors, from Michigan State University. She wrote and illustrated a comic strip entitled ‘WhiteGirl,’ that appeared weekly in the NOISE newspaper for almost four years. Cosgrove illustrated ‘Family Album,’ a children's album by the hit rock band The Verve Pipe .

Kate’s illustrations have been published in books, magazines, and newspapers, exhibited in galleries and art shows; with sales across the United States, Australia, Canada, Colombia, England, France, and Switzerland. She says of her art, “I was born into a family where everyone makes something: art, music, food, clothing, noise, a mess... I found I like to make messes and art at a very early age. I expect to keep doing both until I draw my last breath. I’m a lucky girl.”

Sara Gilliam has spent most of her career as a communications professional for nonprofit and academic organizations. In June 2010 she will return to graduate school full-time to pursue her master’s in education, with an emphasis on teaching English language learners. Her poetry, fiction and nonfiction have appeared in Crab Orchard Review, The Minneapolis City Pages, E Magazine, the Environmental News Network, Hope Magazine, Nervy Girl, Many Mountains Moving, Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot, and Red River Review. She received her bachelor’s in anthropology from the University of Nebraska, and a master of fine arts in creative writing from George Mason University. She lived in northern Thailand for 15 months as a Fulbright scholar, and has traveled extensively in South and Southeast Asia, and South Africa. She has an infant son named Coltrane.

Sara and Kate initially collaborated on “Ah Mu Weaves a Story,” a book created to welcome refugees from Burma resettling in the United States.
